Modular Homes: Manufactured Housing:

 

Modular homes are house kits that people can buy and assemble by themselves or pay to have built on site.  These types of homes include both traditional manufactured housing as well as custom pre-fabricated kits.  These homes can be more expensive and can range anywhere from 20,000 to 300,000 dollars or more the high end can range in size from 200-300 square feet to over 5000 square feet or more.

An Inexpensive Alternative:

 

The sleek prefab i-house designed and built by Clayton Homes, a well known manufactured Home Builder in California. The home has low-VOC building materials, low-flow fixtures, dual-flush toilets, a metal roof that allows rainwater harvesting, high-efficiency insulation and Energy Star appliances. Optional features include solar panels and a tank less water heater. Retail price depends on the options chosen, but starts at $78,000 (final cost after installation at site is 120,000. A smaller version is available for under $49,000 for the 900 square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath model. Homes provide programmable thermostats, low-e windows, and compact fluorescent lighting.

Modular Homes: House Kit by Shelter House Barn Kits

 

Here is a popular pre-fab house kit from Shelter Home barn kits.  These homes range and a multiple of sizes and start anywhere from $20.00 to $50.00 per square foot for building shell only.  These can be assembled in a few days by doing it yourself or having help with a few friends.
